Why is my pay different from my paystub?

Shift RN gives an estimate of gross pay — before taxes, insurance, retirement, union dues, and anything else your employer withholds. Your take-home will be lower, often by 25–35%. The app never tries to guess deductions, because those depend on your W-4, your state, and your benefits.

The estimate can also differ if your employer figures overtime on a different agreement than the one you picked in the app. Always check your paystub.

Which overtime rules are supported?

Federal (FLSA) — 1.5× after 40 hours in a workweek.
California — 1.5× after 8 hours in a day and after 40 in a week; 2× after 12 hours in a day; seventh-consecutive-day rules.
California 12-hour agreement — for units that voted in an alternative workweek: no daily overtime up to 12 hours, 2× beyond 12, 1.5× after 40 in a week.
Hospital 8/80 — 1.5× after 8 hours in a day or after 80 hours in a 14-day period.

If your unit uses a union contract or a state rule that isn't listed above, the estimate will not match your paystub. Tell me which one you need and I'll look at adding it.

Why is my overtime rate higher than 1.5 × my base rate?

Because that's the law. Under the FLSA, overtime is paid on your regular rate, which includes shift differentials — not on your base hourly rate alone. If you work nights at $41.00 base plus a $5.00 night differential, your regular rate that week is higher than $41.00, and your overtime is figured on the higher number. Shift RN does this correctly; some employers get it wrong.

The app writes a standard .ics calendar file and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Whoever receives it can open it in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook. It's a snapshot, not a live subscription — if your schedule changes, send it again. A live link would mean putting your schedule on a server, and it never leaves your phone.

Pay information is never included in the file.

Open the app once after installing so it can write your schedule, then remove and re-add the widget. If it's still blank, email me — that's a bug on my side, not something you did wrong.

My night shift shows 11 hours (or 13)

That's daylight saving. On the night the clocks jump forward, a 7 PM–7 AM shift is genuinely 11 hours long; on the night they fall back it's 13. Shift RN pays you for the hours you actually work rather than the hours on the clock face, and flags those shifts so you know why.
